Spalted Maple is technically not a species a maple, but rather any type of Maple wood that has begun initial stages of decay and then dried to prevent further decay. The decay markings (called spalting) give the wood dark contrasting lines and streaks, the patterns are strikingly unique giving each piece of wood a one-of-a-kind design and texture.
Mahogany color ranges from a light pinkish brown to a dark reddish brown. Typically the denser the wood the darker the color; and the color tends to darken with age.
